 | THIS IS NOT A TRANSLATION OF ANY KIND! I know like 5 Korean words, and I'm pretty sure none of them appeared in this song. XD This is a rewrite of 2NE1's song "Ugly" done in English. I tweaked some of the English lyrics that were already in the song and added the rest myself. I didn't do this cause I think I'm an awesome singer or songwriter. When I first watched the music video, the title made me think it would be a song with an ironic title (i don't know if that's the proper use of "ironic" XD) with a message like Christina Aguilera's "You are beautiful" song. There have been a lot of stories about bullied girls (and boys). I got excited cause I thought the song would have a positive message that could speak to that issue. Hearing the English in the song, it didn't seem to me that it did. In fact, it seemed to be the opposite. That made me sad. I wrote these lyrics using the Korean version as a reference, and I didn't read a translation before I wrote the lyrics. I wrote it letting the melody of the song, the voices of the girls, the music, and my sadness over the deaths of girls who have killed themselves because of bullying influence me. I hate hearing those stories because I am a girl. I can honestly say I have never felt ugly in my entire life. My heart goes out to these girls and all girls everywhere whose true beauty is hidden by the ugliness that other people cover it with.
